Our Story

In 2008, my Dad suggested I personally manage my investments.  I had been working in IT since I was 16, and with the absence of pensions, and the deplorable performance of most mutual funds, I was a long way from being able to fund my retirement.  He knew I had always been a numbers guy.  I explained everything I understood at the time about the efficient market hypothesis, but he knew I had some time on my hands between IT projects, and suggested I look into it.   I read a lot, and I found some ideas intriguing.   We talked every day, and he consistently pushed me to figure out new things.

I started collecting and analyzing data, and I wrote some software to parse, filter, analyze and select equities.     I couldn't trade faster than the high-frequency traders, or perform more analysis than the full-time analysts, but I knew a lot about numbers and decided on building a slowly transforming active portfolio approach that tracks momentum but is entirely based on custom developed signals.

For 9 years, I published these portfolios to family and friends, and a slowly growing set of investors who would trade for themselves.

And then we decided to convert this into a business.
